John R.R Tolkien was a english writer, scholar, and philologist. When Tolkien was young his parents had died he and his brothers lived with s catholic priest. He lived in Birmingham when he was a child. He served in World War I for the British. Originally his book the Hobbit started as a bedtime story for his children before it was fully developed. It took him 14 years to write The Lord of the Rings series. At first his colleagues did not like his books. When his book were published and sold man people started to respect him. He based many of his book ideas for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in Birmingham. He died September 2 1973 due to a chest infection. His son continued to publish the books he never had a chance to publish. Many movies have been made based on his books.
