Harper Lee is a famous American writer. She is most famous for her race relations book To Kill a Mocking Bird. Lee based To Kill A Mocking Bird on the racial things she witnessed first hand growing up. Her book became a international seller and became a movie in 1962. Nelle Harper Lee was born April 28 1962 in Monroeville Alabama. Her father was a lawyer and her mother sadly stayed home because she was mentally ill. Harper was the youngest child and had three siblings. for a majority of her childhood she spent in a small town with her friend who would also become a writer Truman Capote. Her interest in Literature began when she was in high school. Lee attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery. There she became a member of the literary honor society. She took a small break in literature and studied law from 1945 to 1949. She later realized that her position in life was literature not law. when To Kill A Mocking Bird came out in 1960 she instantaneously became successful. In 1961, the book won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. After this book was published Lee never published another novel. She now lives a simple life in Monroeville.
