1.) Maycomb is a small racial town in Alabama, Atticus is the town lawyer and knows everybody in the town. His kids are jem and scout and his wife died from a hear attack.

2.) We learn that Dill is from Mississippi, he is obnoxious, he thinks he is better than all of Alabama, he is visiting Alabama.
3.) What, briefly, has happened to Arthur “Boo” Radley?
3.) Whats happened to Boo Radley is he got arrested because he stabbed his dad in the leg and was mixed up with the wrong crowd, basically he is insane.
4.) Why does the Radley place fascinate Scout, Jem and Dill?
4.) The Radley place fascinates them because of the stories they have herd. They have become curious.
5.) What do you notice about the narrative voice and viewpoint of the novel?
5.) The narrative voice is Scouts, She is retelling the story because they open up the story saying Jem broke his arm and then rewinding to things that happened before that.

Miss Caroline Fisher is a good person because:
Miss Caroline Fisher gave Walter a quarter for food
Miss Caroline Fisher is good because she smells like peppermint
Miss Caroline Fisher is "a pretty little thing.”
Miss Caroline Fisher is a good teacher who cares about her students

Miss Caroline Fisher hits kids with rulers

Chapter 3
1.) Who is Calpurnia?
1.) Calpurnia is Atticus's maid, the kids consider her a mother figure. She is part of the family because the kids state the cant function without her.
2.) What is Walter Cunningham like? What does his behavior during lunch suggest about his home life?
2.) Walter Cunningham is poor, but he is proud to be a who he is. His home life is not great because he goes to Scouts because he probably doesn't have a house or food.
3.) How does Atticus treat Walter? What does this show about Atticus’ character? What does it show about Walter?
3.) Atticus treats Walter as a professional respectful person.This shows Atticus is a respectful person. It shows Walter doesn't care what other people think and does what he wants to do.
4.) Contrast the difference in the way Jem and Scout treat Walter. What does this show about the difference between Jem and Scout at this point in the novel?
4.) Jem treats Walter kindly when he defends Walter and invites him over, While Scout beats up Walter because she blames him for getting in trouble at school.
5.) Atticus says that you never really understand a person “until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”. What does this mean? Is it an easy thing for Scout to learn? Why or why not?
5.) Atticus is saying that you need to get to know a person before you judge them. For Scout it might be difficult to learn because she is impatient. For example she gets mad at Walter and beats him up because of the teacher.

6.) We learn that the Ewells are rude people that don't care what happens to them, they are alcoholic and disobey the law. They feel like they can do whatever they want.
Chapter 4
1.) What does Scout think of current fashions in education?
1.) Scout thinks that the education she is getting isn't education because all she does is color. Scout gets most of her education from her dad and Calpurnia. She feels school is dumb because she doesn't even learn.
2.) What characteristics of children are revealed through the Boo Radley game?
2.) Characteristics of the children revealed are they are very observant, they want to act mature, and they understand right and wrong. They now that they are supposed to not do things like play the game but they still do.
3.) Why doesn’t Scout enjoy the games as much as the boys do?
3.) Scout doesnt enjoy the game because she is terrified of a Radley finding out they play the game. Also they make her the boring character that sweeps.
4.) What might be the cause of the laughter from inside the house?
4.) There are multiple possibilities to the laughter in the house, one is that Boo is watching them and laughing as they push Scout down a hill, or Scout was delusional and just herd things.
Chapter 5
1.) Describe Miss Maudie Atkinson. What do the children think of her?
1.) Maudie Atkinson is the neighbor of Atticus, she is a baptist, the children think of her as friends. Miss. Maudie gives Scout information about Arthur because she considers her a friend.
2.) What purpose do you think Miss Maudie’s character plays in the novel?
2.) Miss. Maudie character is played as a nanny when everyone is gone and no one can take care of scout. She serves as someone who steers Scout to be a proper ladylike person
3.) What does Miss Maudie tell Scout about Boo? (provide a quote) How does this compare with what Scout already believes?
3.) Miss. Maudie tells Scout Boo’s real name and how he was as a child and was polite to her. for example she says he always spoke nicely to me no matter what folks said he did. Spoke as nicely as he knew how.” (page 61) This compared to what Scout believes shows that some of the things she has heard are just rumors and that he might be a little crazy but still nice.

4.) Atticus gives the reason for the children not to play because he believes they are offending him and being rude. Atticus is right because they were on his property playing around mocking him.
Chapter 6
1.) Why does Scout disapprove of Jem and Dill’s plan of looking in one of the Radley’s windows?
1.) Scout disapproves of the plan because she is afraid of Boo Radley, she thinks that if he catches them he'll eat them.
2.) What does Mr. Nathan know about the intruders in his garden? Why does Miss Stephanie refer to a “negro” over whose head Mr. Nathan has fired?
2.) Nathan knows that he scared Scout and Jem when he fired the shotgun. Stephanie accuses a negro because she believes only black people steal.

3.) Dill's explanation gets him in trouble when he says they are betting and playing strip poker. Jem saves him by saying there playing with matches not cards so they dont get into to much trouble.

1.) When Jem returned he found his pants stitched and mended like someone expected him to return. Its strange because he thinks its boo sending him a message.
2.) Can you find any evidence that Jem is beginning to understand more than Scout about Boo Radley?
2.) Jem is begging to understand more because he thinks that Boo is messing with them because of his pants and the figurines he found which is strange. He feels like Boo is trying to be friendly with them.
3.) Does Jem still fear the gifts in the tree? Give reasons for your answer.
3.) Jem no longer fears the gifts in the tree, he is getting used to them. For example because there kids he gives them gum because it was candy back then, he sends them the soap to show he knows who they are.
4.) When the children plan to send a letter to the person who leaves the gifts, they are prevented. How does this happen? Why does it, and why might he do so?
4.) They are prevented from leaving the letter when the tree is cemented by Nathan Radley, he does this to protect the kids and Boo from each other. He doesn't want Boo who is insane to be roaming around and talking with little kids, also he doesn't want the kids to be responding to Boo.
